Happy New Year (again!) Amazingly, this year is off to a fast and furious start, with January soon to be in the rear view. So before any more time elapses, I want to share one of my most favorite perennial posts, highlighting many of the moments that made the year gone by special for me, personally, and for D.M.R. Fine Foods.
Each year it seems like it couldn't get any sweeter and, then, it does! And that would be 2018. On a personal note, I enjoyed more fulfilling career, personal, civic, and relational highlights that made everything else the proverbial (and oh so delicious) icing on top.
That "icing" included special moments, among others, in food, travel, lifestyle and media--a well-rounded foray of the good life. And I'm excited to recap some of the most special for you here, starting with a fun slideshow round-up. (*Recommended: watch in full screen mode.)
Food ~
My year in food included such highlights as once again being a featured blogger and contributor to the acclaimed Black History Month Virtual Potluck, with my Cinnamon Raisin Bread Pudding with Maple Glaze, along with more recipes and foodie indulgences from near and far.
Travel ~
My wanderlust led me to exceptional new destinations, including Cartagena, Colombia and Cozumel, Mexico, and repeat favorites, alike, including South Beach, New York City, Chicago, Orlando and Bermuda. From the occasional business jaunt, to vacation getaways, 2018 was another year of fulfilling travel and exploration.
Fashion & Lifestyle ~
I experienced of the biggest honors of 2018 on what I'll label as the lifestyle front, which was being selected as a 2018 BHG Stylemaker by Better Homes and Gardens magazine! Can you say, awe-mazing?! (I'll be a doing a dedicated post soon to share more of the fabulousness of my entire experience, so stay tuned!) Beyond BHGStylemaker, I had the pleasure of joining gorgeous fashion influencer, CariRene Vintage, for an amazing afternoon of fashion inspiration at the Global Runway Fashion Presentation hosted by the Atlanta Airport. And as a special bonus, to boot, I met one of my favorite fashion and beauty editors!
Beyond decor and fashion, another highlight included a private Girlfriends' Spa Party courtesy of Giorgio Armani Beauty and Saks Atlanta, making for a great afternoon of pampering with some of my favorite girls.
Media/Collaborations ~
2018 was another standout year on the media and collaboration front. I was so thrilled to return to the t.v. to share more of my food and lifestyle passions, this time with the fabulous daytime show, Atlanta and Company. My media footprint continued with my running monthly column with Atlanta Tribune: The Magazine, media corp for my forever favorite Atlanta Food and Wine Festival, and myriad media collaborations on behalf of exceptional local restaurants, wineries, farm co-ops (City Winery Atlanta, Varun Napoli, Dantanna's, Peach Dish), Atlanta Magazine, and more!
I obviously kept to my busier pace but, as always, it was extremely worth it, and equally as special to share it with you here on the blog and via social media. I thank you for remaining connected and appreciate your ongoing support and interest in my corner of the world. I love having you along for my journey and look forward to sharing more as 2019 continues to unfold.
Happy Living!

{In Case You Missed It}: 2017 Highlights
There's a heightened sense of gratitude that occurs when I realize just how amazing this past year has been. On virtually every front, I was so blessed to create, curate, and share my passions in both familiar and new (for me), exciting ways!
If you've been along for the ride with me until now, multiplied thank yous!! And if you're newer to D.M.R. Fine Foods, welcome! I look forward to you settling in and staying awhile. :)
So without further adieu, here's our best of 2017, starting with a short video stream of some favorite moments (recommended: watch in full screen mode).
Travel ~
My year in travel was probably my biggest in recent memory. I literally started the year in the midst of a winter getaway to Rome, Florence and Paris and got to take in these favorite cities (and fall in love with them) all over again. Within a month, I was off to warmer terrain in the U.S. Virgin Islands and enjoyed a lovely return visit to St. Croix. My journeys continued to New Orleans, Chicago, Washington D.C., Puerto Rico, Cuba, Phoenix (including one amazing day trip to the Grand Canyon) and finally, my perennial favorite, NYC. Travel is such a source of joy and discovery and refreshing for me, so a year heavy in taking in destinations near and far couldn't have been better.
Food ~
2017 was by far the most exciting year in food to date! I started the year sharing recipes inspired by travels, like Warm Goat Cheese Salad, soon followed by a phenomenal virtual potluck with 27 other food bloggers in honor of Black History Month!! It was a one-of-a-kind showcase of global black culture--through the lens of food, including my Curry Chicken Pot Pie feature. More goodness followed with recipes like Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups, Cherry Upside Down Cake, Roasted Shrimp and Pineapple Skewers, Braised Short Ribs and more!
Beyond my kitchen, my food journey was also inextricably linked to my travels, and I had the pleasure of taking in unforgettable local eats and restaurants, such as this and this and this. It was another delicious year, indeed!
Media ~
Beyond sharing here on the blog, my recurring column in Atlanta Tribune: The Magazine, digital and social media, I was immensely blessed to add both television and radio to the fold. From a radio interview on the food and culture scene in St. Croix, USVI to several appearances on CBS46's Atlanta Plugged In morning show, I couldn't have been more thrilled for the opportunities to share my food and lifestyle passions with broader audiences.
The year brought continued successful collaborations that included media relations and social campaigns for the Atlanta Food and Wine Festival, The Four Seasons Hotel, St. Lucia Department of Tourism, Davio's Northern Italian Restaurant, PopSugar, and more.
Fashion & Lifestyle ~
Fashion found its way center stage through style files on Trench Coats, the Met Gala Red Carpet and the exceptional Ragtrade Atlanta Fashion Week and Runway Show.
And lifestyle inspiration spanned fall tablescapes, to holiday-themed decor, and more.
Thank you for allowing D.M.R. Fine Foods to share with you and may you be inspired to live "the good life" like never before!
xx,
Dawn

{In Case You Missed It}: 2016 Highlights
Happy New Year! I hope that your new year is indeed off to a great start and already shaping up to be your best one yet.
Before we go much further, however, in keeping with my recent tradition, I want to pause and share on some of the most special highlights from 2016. If you follow me on social media, then you're likely aware that I was fortunate to end last year and begin the new year indulging in my passion for travel with a vacation in a few of my favorite European countries and cities--hence the recent quietness on the blog and much appreciated break and rest from my usual routine. (More highlights from that to come in the days and months ahead...!)
Now that I'm back in the saddle, so to speak, my first order of business here on the blog is to share a brief capture of some of the moments--in food, travel, fashion and style, lifestyle, inspiration, and more, that made last year exceptional on its own terms. Six plus years and counting, and I am more thankful than ever for this outlet and the opportunities you afford me to share my passions with you.
From dining at the James Beard House, to being featured in Vinings Lifestyle Magazine, to recurring media coverage and collaboration for the Atlanta Food & Wine Festival, Taste of Atlanta Festival, as well as local restaurants, working with amazing brands like Groupon and Warby Parker, sharing my recipes in Atlanta Tribune: The Magazine, increased collaboration with PopSugar, a fabulous Holiday Pop Up Shop, wonderful travels from New York to Miami to Mexico to Italy, and more, 2016 was once again super sweet and special for D.M.R. Fine Foods. I feel truly blessed by it all.
As always, I hope DMRFF continues to inspire you to live and embrace "the good life" in all its facets.
Here's to the happiest new year yet....

{A Night to Remember}: Dinner at the James Beard House
The euphoria of which I speak was a dreamy and unforgettable evening spent dining and mingling at the James Beard House in New York City. The evening represented the culmination of the thrill of having the James Beard Foundation acknowledge my food and subsequently award me the honor of dinner for two at the Beard House. I had been sitting on my gift for the many months since and finally elected my birthday weekend as the ideal opportunity to indulge. And so I did.
All Smiles with Chef Petroni |
What ensued was a six-course feast, aptly named the St. Joseph's Feast, interpreted by Chef Christian Petroni of Fortina restaurant in Armonk, NY; Rye Brook, NY; and Stamford, CT. Course after course presented one delight after the next and carried the evening along so tastefully and beautifully that all sense of time was lost over the hours that passed. A warm greeting by Chef Petroni and his team of talented chefs and staff ended the evening on the intimate, inspiring note that I could only have imagined prior. It was, and will always be, a night to remember.
Thank you, James Beard Foundation, for the honor. It was Happy Eating indeed!

{Thank You!} Fall & Holiday Pop-Up Shop 2015
Exchange after exchange was filled with my sincere appreciation for the enthusiastic customer support I received from family, friends, colleagues, fellow artisans and bloggers, and new customers who stumbled upon our pop-up while scouring about our host venue, Westside Market. Your support made the day the true success I hoped it would be, and I'm truly thankful that you chose D.M.R. Fine Foods to bring the tastes of the season to you.
I unfortunately couldn't capture a photo of every customer who shopped with us (and a few were admittedly camera shy :) ), but I wanted to share some of the faces that made the event worth every moment, along with this expression of thanks.

Atlanta Summer Festivals, Food and Fun
Summers in the 'ATL' can represent many things to many people. Despite the characteristic heat and humidity that blankets the city this time of the year, life doesn't slow down in hopes of cooler weather, but thrives as actively as ever in spite of it.
I relish taking in as much of the food scene as possible during the season, and in case you're looking to do the same, here's a starter list to get you out, about, exploring and enjoying what this fabulous city has to offer.
Downtown Restaurant Week ~
Going on now through Sunday, July 26, 2015, Downtown Restaurant Week features several of Atlanta's premier restaurants located in and near the heart of downtown. With prix fixe menus ranging from $15 for lunch to $25-$35 for dinner, it's a great way to enjoy premium dining for a literal fraction of the cost.
Ice Cream Festival ~
With July being National Ice Cream Month, there's no better way to close it out than with an Ice Cream Festival! The fun happens on Saturday, July 25, 2015 at beautiful Piedmont Park and will feature ice cream for sale, vendors, entertainment and fitness events. Entry is free.
Garden Chef Demos ~
Enjoy lively chef demos showcasing the season's bounty every weekend, now through September, amidst the gorgeous Atlanta Botanical Garden in the Edible Garden Outdoor Kitchen. Free with Garden admission.
Atlanta Bar-B-Q Festival ~
Music, competitions, and scrumptious food and drink, mark the scene at the Atlanta Bar-B-Q Festival at Atlantic Station. Mark your calendars for August 14th and 15th and get ready to indulge!
Beyond this list of favorites, there's so much more to explore as Summer continues to unfold. Eventbrite, a global marketplace for events, is one of my go-to sources for featuring--and discovering--all that's happening in my area around my interests. Be sure to check out it out for more foodie happenings, or to plan your own special soiree with their event management software, and make the remaining days of Summer the most deliciously fun yet!

{Discovering Southern}: The Atlanta Food & Wine Festival
To say that last weekend was delicious would be an understatement of the grandest proportions. Indulging in the three-day fete that was the Atlanta Food & Wine Festival was delicious, yes. But it was also so. much. more. In its fifth year, the AFWF showcased the best in culinary and creative talent across the Southern region of the United States with a clear and simple mission: Discover Southern.
Undertaking an exhilarating itinerary that began Friday afternoon, in the heart of Midtown, Atlanta, I feasted my way through a weekend that was as special for the people and experiences I encountered, as it was for the food and drink. From restauranteurs, to chocolatiers, to acclaimed cookbook authors and chefs, to regional purveyors, equally eager festival goers, and beyond, I relished every moment of Southern connection and discovery--and left wanting more.
My first tastes of the festival were at the tasting tents, which featured more than 100 award-winning chefs. With a variety that mirrored the broad flavors of the South, there was something for everyone--and every taste. Barbecue, seafood, tacos, Indian cuisine, gelato, chocolate, doughnuts, pimento cheese and deviled eggs (of course!), sips of all kinds, burgers, and on and on and on went the lineup of scrumptious eats that spanned four tents--and drew me back day after day.
Beyond the excitement and indulgence of the tasting tents, I took in a few of the more than 90 classes (my selections included Bugs and Chocolate, Chilies in the South, and more), cooking demos, and a newly featured, Sunday Brunch. Attendees could also opt-in to an expertly curated Connoisseur Dinner Series, hosted nightly at premier Atlanta restaurants and venues.
My dalliances left me prouder than ever of this part of the country that I call home, and I'm already counting the days until I get to do it all over again next year. For more festival highlights, visit my photo gallery -- then mark your calendars for next year where we'll do it all over again!

Holiday Pop-Up Shop {Photo Highlights!}
Last weekend reminded me, once again, of what I love so much about food, as I hosted my Holiday Pop-Up Shop. The thrill of creating--and sharing--food that you love and seeing the delight it brings to those who enjoy it is like no other. I was so fortunate to share my passion with my customers as they tasted, savored and shopped my select holiday menu of cookies, candies and savory treats. And I was even more elated to witness their wonderful (if not colorful) reactions to my food, up close and personally. (Every cook's dream and what makes it all worth it, for sure.)
Westside Market served as the beautiful host location for an afternoon of holiday cheer and scrumptious, festive eats that will always be remembered. While we weren't able to capture each and every customer who supported us during the event, we definitely captured the spirit of them all and invite you to see our photo highlights from the big day!
Thanks again to everyone who supported this event and helped to make it a success!!

{Taste. Savor. Shop.}: D.M.R. Fine Foods Holiday Pop-Up Shop!
This holiday season I'm going back to where it all began--my Holiday Sweets and Treats Menu. Only seven years ago, I rolled out a holiday menu that featured the best in confectionery sweets and savory treats and D.M.R. Fine Foods was officially born. The response was great (if not overwhelming) and my small-batch, artisan quality food business would continue to later include private dinner parties, customer appreciation events, and yes, more holiday catering, alongside my role as a culinary instructor, the start of my companion blog in 2010 and, most recently, the launch of my Pop-Up Cooking School.
I have loved watching my vision grow over the years and my commitment to bringing my clients the best is as strong as ever. So, for one afternoon only, I'll be featuring select items from my holiday menu at my first-ever holiday pop-up shop, hosted at the fabulous Westside Market!
It's the perfect opportunity to taste, savor, shop and bring a taste of the holidays into your home--without any of the fuss.
And now, for the menu.
Mark your calendars for December 13th from 12 p.m. - 4 p.m. EST and make plans to drop in for these holiday goodies for your own noshing, holiday parties, hostess gifts, and more! I look forward to seeing you there!

Taste of Atlanta: My Weekend Indulgence
With the gorgeous Fall weather as my backdrop, and a world of deliciousness ahead of me, I embarked upon an afternoon of food, fun, and exploration at the annual Taste of Atlanta Festival. The highly regarded festival spanned three days, more than 90 restaurants, and an abundance of culinary action, all while presenting tastes from every corner of Atlanta. It was the place to be for a relaxed, yet exciting, time of leisure, with an ever-present eye on what delicacy awaited next--a welcomed reminder of why I love attending.
With an equally eager friend in tow, I arrived ready to indulge and began my "mini food crawl" from post to post almost immediately. From my first bites of fried oysters and beignets to my final bites of ice cream (no surprise there) and fried apple pie, with a bounty of good eats in between, I conquered my mission and left satisfied. See more of the food highlights below:
Settled into the leisurely pace of the afternoon, it was about as chill as a Sunday afternoon stroll, laced with the anticipation of "what will I discover and eat next?" The ying-yang of it all made for one of the best weekend indulgences I've had in a while and left me proud of all the unique and scrumptious tastes of Atlanta. It's fair to say that I'm already looking ahead to when I get to do it all over again, and based on the smiles and pulse of the day's crowd, I'm not the only one.
Happy Eating!

{Atlanta's Westside Market}: Dive into Fall Design
Some of the many Fall inspired wares |
The Fall season has finally graced us with its arrival again, bringing along its own special inspiration for design and decor to enliven and infuse living spaces. Tuesday night I was invited to attend a gathering at the Westside Market, one of the Southeast's premier design and furniture merchants, highlighting their many offerings and abundant inspiration around Fall design.
From embellished table scapes, to art, to collectibles, to furniture pieces and beyond, the Westside Market proved to offer something for every taste and budget across the design spectrum. Also serving as a consignment boutique, there are clothing selections sprinkled throughout the expansive venue, as well as the option to consign your valuables.
I couldn't resist grabbing a few items for my own takeaway and already have plans for return visits in the days ahead. If you're familiar with the Market, you'll want to drop in to see what's new from last night's seasonal reveal. And if you're not familiar, then you'll definitely want to get acquainted with all it has to offer.
So here's to welcoming Fall flair, design, inspiration and... Happy Living!

D.M.R. Fine Foods Pop Up Cooking School ~ The Perfect Summer BBQ
My increasing excitement over the Summer edition of my Techniques and Tastings(TM) Pop Up Cooking School culminated in a fun, delicious and inspiring time this past weekend. With a menu featured around the fresh, vibrant, seasonal tastes of Summer, I taught and shared culinary techniques and tips, dished up tasty recipes and equipped my amazing class with the know-how and inspiration to recreate the dishes on their own throughout the Summer--and beyond!
From fruity sangria mocktails, to scrumptious, chilled gazpacho, to succulent, gourmet meatball sliders, to a decadent sweet finish of berry and balsamic shortcakes, we tasted Summer in all its goodness and had a blast during it all!
It was the ultimate in Happy Eating, and I hope to see you at our next one!
XO,
Dawn

Pop Up Cooking School {Photo Highlights}
The inaugural class of my Pop Up Cooking School took place a couple of weeks ago, and I'm admittedly still riding on a residual high from what was an absolutely amazing time--and a personal dream come true.
We gathered, we cooked, we tasted, we learned--and we had one fabulous time! My aim to dish up cooking techniques, tips, recipes and good eats, as well as loads of inspiration, was (thankfully) a mission accomplished, if the enthusiasm and feedback from the class participants is any measure.
Duly occupied with cooking, teaching, and otherwise engaging the class, I couldn't aptly wear my photography hat and, instead, brought in the talented ZOA Photography to capture photo memories of the day. Check out the photo gallery here--and be sure to stay connected so you can make plans to join us at our future classes!
